She has also participated in state legislative deliberations on genetically engineered food labeling issues, including the historic passage of PA 13-183, Connecticut's Genetically Engineered Food Labeling Act , the first GMO food labeling law passed in the US,. Growing up in the NW corner, with 4-H clubs, ponies, chickens, vegetable & flower gardens, exhibiting at country fairs, and using manure and other organic sources to fertilize gardens, provided many valuable insights. She also has a Masters degree from Cornell in environmental / regional planning, and an MBA from UConn.
